The amygdala, a part of the brain associated with emotional reactions, is larger in teenagers than adults. This means that they may be more prone to experiencing fear and anxiety emotionally. Because the amygdala regulates our emotions, this could explain why teens are more likely to feel those reactions to stimuli such as scary movies or spiders.
